Help the eye patients with Donation
“Of
all the senses, Eyes are the most beautiful” goes the saying. There
are many people out there in the world suffer from blindness.
Blindness may due to genetic reasons or accidents or disorders that
may occur during their lifetime. Some cases can be cured if given
proper attention at the right time. In other cases the victims are
affected very badly. To help them from sufferings and restore their
sight many eye banks are set up and eye donation is promoted widely.
In the early stages
eye bank programme were not successful. After various measures taken
up by the government and the non-governmental organisations eye
donation was promoted. To donate the eyes of the deceased a proper
authorisation is needed. The
eyes need to be collected and preserved 6 hours after death. The
family of the deceased should cooperate until eye doctors arrive.
Both
eyes of the deceased must be kept closed and cover them with moist
cotton. The overhead fan should be deceased. Eye
removal takes only about half-an-hour and will not cause any
disfiguration.
Other
than blindness there are many eye patients who are of financial needs
for treatment. Many philanthropists are ready to donate money to
them. According to rules, donation to NGO has tax exemption.
Mostly these donations are used in performing cataract surgeries,
children eye care programs, buying eye glasses or some equipment for
undertaking treatments, food or medical expenses of the patients.
Approximately 50% Tax exemption under section 80G (Income Tax Act)
and 100% Tax exemption under sections 80GGA or 35A are implemented.
PAN Number is mandatory for donations above Rs. 20000 and 100%
exempt. Donations are also given for conducting awareness
/ screening / detection camps in rural areas. Many of the money
donators donate during their birthdays or wedding days. A small help
of one’s can lit the future of others strongly.
