27000 children screened in Ramanagara.
Childhood blindness and refractive errrors are 2 of the 5 eye diseases identified as a priority by World Health Organisation. When children have a difficulty in their vision, this impacts their social and intellectual
development.
The Nanna Kannu Comprehensive Eye Care programme for children has over the past 4 years screened over 200000 children from disadvantaged sections. We have collaborated with various service organisations and NGO's to enhance the reach of the project.
With support of the Dr. Rajkumar Trust and Bidadi Druggist and Chemist Association, 27,952 children of the government schools in Ramanagar district were screened. A formal function was organized on 4th of July, towards creating awareness about eye and eye problems. Children identified with refractive errors were provided the spectacles free of cost by Sankara.
The event showcased the comprehensive nature of service with the invocation song being sung by students from Jagadguru Sri Balagangadhara Nath Swamy Residential School for the Blind, Ramanagara .

operated for eye ailments at Sankara was inaugurated by Mr. Doddanna Cine
artist and Ambassador, Dr Rajkumar Eye Collection Centre, Bidadi, and Mrs
Parvathamma Rajkumar, wife of Late Dr Rajkumar and Chairman, Dr. Rajkumar
Trust. The first Indian tactile braille flag was also unveiled at the event.
It was a exhiltrating experience for the children from the blind school who
were able to appreciate the national colours for the first time.
Leader of the Opposition, Karnataka & Former Chief Minister, Mr. H D Kumaraswamy appreciated the service to the community being provided by Sankara Eye Hospital, Bangalore.
